
Roadrunners Snap Skid, Beat Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their three-game losing streak with an 8-4 win over the McAllen Thunder Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 4,136 in attendance.
The loss extends McAllen's losing streak to five games.
The Thunder (14-22) got the scoring started in the top of the first inning against Edinburg starter James Giullieti. Wilson Batista hit an RBI ground out with runners on the corners that allowed Adam Matos to score giving McAllen the 1-0 lead.
Blake Sanders extended the Thunder lead with an RBI single that scored Derek Marshall making it 2-0.
In the top of the fourth, Marshall hit a solo home run, his first of the season, pushing the McAllen lead to 3-0.
The Roadrunners (16-21) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a couple of passed balls that allowed Wellington Dotel and R.J. Harris to score cutting the Thunder's lead 3-2.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Brandon Wilkerson was hit by a pitch that allowed Gabe Memmert to score from third tying the game at three.
C.J. Beatty reached to start the bottom of the sixth on an error and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Robert Matlock. Beatty then came into score on sacrifice fly by Memmert. Matlock, who reached on the sacrifice bunt, then came into score on an RBI single by Dotel. Osiel Flores added a run after he scored on wild pitch that made it 6-3 Roadrunners.
Batista added another RBI ground out in the top of the seventh that scored Sanders from third cutting the score to 6-4.
Edinburg added a couple of runs in the bottom of the eighth. Flores reached on an error that moved him to second. He then stole third but a throwing error allowed him score. Two outs later, Harris hit a solo home run to deep right center field pushing the score to 8-4.
Julio Castro worked a scoreless ninth giving Edinburg the 8-4 victory.
Corey Goudeau (1-5) picked up the win after pitching two innings of relief and allowing one run on two hits and striking out two.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play game two of this four-game series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Aaron Guerra (4-3) is expected to face Rashad Ford (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
