Chico Outlaws News Release
CHICO- In a game that could've ended with the Outlaws' first series sweep, the Lake County Fielders put on a hitting clinic to salvage a win from the series. The Fielders tallied 18 hits on their way to a 12-8 victory over the Outlaws.
Fans didn't have to wait long to see their team take the lead as the Outlaws put a run on the board in the very first inning. With two out in the inning, Jake Rife snuck a hit passed the Fielders first baseman and later put himself in scoring position with a stolen base. Rife would later come around to score on a Chris Lubanski single; giving the Outlaws a 1-0 lead.
The Fielders would quickly respond in the top of the next inning, however. Lake County put on a tremendous display of hitting on their way to putting up seven runs in the inning, all with two out. Seven straight Fielders would reach base culminating in a three run homerun by C.J. Ziegler. The scoring kept coming in the next half inning for the Outlaws. With Brian McFall already reaching base with a single, Kurt Steinhauer hit a shot off the top of the wall in right center field to pull the Outlaws within four.
Lake County delivered the knockout punch in the top of the fourth inning. Brandon Newton led off the inning with a triple and scored on a Rex Rundgren sacrifice fly. The next four batters would all reach base. The final hit, a three RBI double by Matt Mansilla, would force Chico starter Demetrius Banks (2-4) out of the game. The four run inning would bring the Fielders lead to eight. The Outlaws would add single runs in the seventh and eighth innings as well as three runs in the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough to erase the deficit.
