
Roadrunners Fall to 'Wings 4-2

HARLINGEN, Texas--- The Edinburg Roadrunners scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning but their rally fell short as they lost 4-2 to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Monday night at Harlingen Field.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when RGV (2-4) got a run against Miguel Martinez (0-2). Mario Mercedes reached on a fielding error and then moved to second on a walk to Jose Rivero. Nick Lazendorf followed with an RBI single that made it 1-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, RGV added to their lead. Rivero had an RBI fielder's choice that allowed Miguel Alfonso to score from third. Lazendorf then followed with an RBI double that scored Rivero for the second run of the inning. Miguel Chacoa then hit an RBI single that allowed Lazendorf to score making it 4-0 WhiteWings.
The Roadrunners (3-3) got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when Wilmer Pino and Vincent Blue each hit RBI singles that scored Derek Perren and Eric Bloom cutting the WhiteWings lead to 4-2.
RGV's bullpen then closed the door on the Roadrunners as Julio Santana did not allow a run in the eighth and Reynaldo Cotilla pitched a scoreless ninth to give the WhiteWings the 4-2 victory.
Martinez allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on five hits in five and two-thirds innings for his second loss of the season.
Rafael Reyes got the win after pitching five and a third innings where he did not allow a run while scattering five hits and striking out five.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings continue their four-game series Tuesday night as the series shifts to Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Dave Dinelli (0-0) is expected to start for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
