Roadrunners Eliminated, Dillas Win Third Straight

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners were eliminated from the United League Championship Series after losing game four to the Amarillo Dillas 11-9 Monday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa for their third straight ULB Championship.

The Roadrunners (1-3) got the scoring started in the top of the first against starter Jermaine Van Buren. Wilmer Pino led off with a double to right field and then moved to third on a ground out by Felix Molina. Nelson Teilon followed with an RBI single allowing Pino to score. One out later, Wilson Batista hit an RBI single to right field that allowed Teilon to score making it 2-0 Edinburg.

In the top of the third, Teilon hit a two-run home run off of Van Buren extending the Roadrunners lead 4-0.

The Dillas (3-1) got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Carlos Figueroa allowing Brian Bueno to score cutting the Roadrunners lead 4-1.

Alberto Cruz led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run against Eric Montoya. Back-to-back singles put runners first and second. Two outs later, Bueno hit an RBI single that allowed Rob Recuenco to score making it 4-3 Edinburg.

Back-to-back walks to Robert Matlock and Pino started the top of the fifth for the Roadrunners. After a sacrifice bunt that put runners at second and third, Teilon hit a two-run single allowing Matlock and Pino to score. Ambiorix Concepcion followed with an RBI single that allowed Teilon to score from third. Concepcion stole second and then moved to third on a throwing error. Batista then drove in Concepcion with an RBI ground out making the score 8-3.

Another RBI single by Figueroa in the bottom of the fifth allowed Joaquin Rodriguez to score cutting Edinburg's lead in half 8-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, Figueroa again delivered for the Dillas as he hit a two-run single allowing Andrew Wong and Bueno to score to make it 8-6 Roadrunners.

The bottom of the seventh inning started with Cruz getting hit by a pitch and then a walk to Rob Recuenco. Wong followed with a single to load the bases for Kevin Butler who then hit a three-run triple to deep center field. Bueno then dropped down a bunt that allowed Bueno to score giving Amarillo the 10-8 lead.

Daryl Jones hit a one-out double in the top of the eighth off of Tyler Pearson (1-0). Osiel Flores then hit an RBI double that allowed Jones to score from third to cut the Dillas lead 10-9.

Amarillo extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth with another solo home run by Cruz this time off of Julio Castro (1-1) making it 11-9.

Ramon Geronimo picked up his second save of the postseason after pitching an inning and a third to give the Dillas the 11-9 victory.
