
Roadrunners Drop Series Opener

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped the first game of the United League Championship series 13-2 to the Fort Worth Cats Thursday night at La Grave Field.
Coleman Stevens (1-0) pitched a complete game allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out six for Fort Worth.
The Cats (1-0) jumped out to the early lead against the Roadrunners (0-1) in the bottom of the first. Greg Bachman delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded scoring Cody Bishop from third. Daniel Meeley then drove in another run with an RBI fielder's choice making it 2-0 Fort Worth.
Bishop added to the Cats lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second pushing the score to 3-0.
Fort Worth scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, three in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth extending their lead to 13-0.
Ryan Zimmerman (0-1) got the start for Edinburg and allowed eight runs in five and a third innings pitched while scattering eight hits and striking out four.
The Roadrunners got on the board in the top of the ninth. After back-to-back singles by Travis Clark and Trevor Whyte, Derrick Pyles hit an RBI single. Kaz Smith drove in another run with an RBI ground out that scored Whyte from third making it 13-2 Cats. Stevens recorded the final out giving the Cats the victory.
The Cats lead the best-of-five championship series 1-0.
The Roadrunners and Cats will play game two of the best-of-five United League Championship Series on Friday night with the first pitch at 7:05 pm at La Grave Field.
