Roadrunners Drop Game Three, Face Elimination

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners lost game three of the United League Championship Series 13-3 to the Amarillo Dillas Sunday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

With the loss, Edinburg now trails 2-1 in the best-of-five United League Championship Series.

The Dillas (2-1) got on the board in the bottom of the first against Mark DiBernardo (1-1). Jermel Lomack started the inning with a single and then moved to third after Carlos Figueroa singled to right. Julio Martinez was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Stephen Douglas who drove in Lomack with an RBI walk. Alberto Cruz followed with a grand slam to give Amarillo the 5-0 lead.

The Roadrunners (1-2) got on the board in the top of the fourth against Ronald Lowe (2-0). After back-to-back singles by Wilson Batista and Ambiorix Concepcion, a double steal was put in motion and a throwing error allowed Concepcion to score. Alexis Hernandez followed with an RBI single scoring Batista from third making it 5-2 Dillas.

In the top of the fifth, Joaquin Rodriguez hit a one-out single to left field and then came into score on an RBI triple by Figueroa. With two outs, Douglas hit an RBI infield single allowing Figueroa to score to extend the Dillas lead 7-2.

A fielding error by Amarillo's defense allowed Daryl Jones to reach second base in the top of the sixth. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Jones scored on an RBI ground out by Concepcion cutting Amarillo's lead 7-3.

The Dillas added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh after they sent 10 hitters to the plate. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run by Kevin Butler giving Amarillo the 13-3 lead.

J.R. Boling and Chris Ingolia combined to pitch two scoreless innings in relief of Lowe who got the win after pitching seven innings and allowing three runs, one earned, while striking out seven.

The Roadrunners and Dillas will play game four of the United League Championship Series Monday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Eric Montoya (0-0) is expected to face Jermaine Van Buren (0-0) with the first scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
