Roadrunners Drop Finale to Colts

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners had their four-game win streak snapped by the San Angelo Colts after a 5-2 loss Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Tim Battle gave the Roadrunners (32-31) the early lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the first that scored Travis Clark and Dan Coury making it 2-0.

The Colts (28-32) got on the board in the top of the third without recording a hit. Bubby Williams started the inning with a walk and then stole second base. After a moving to third on a ground ball, Williams came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Danny Hernandez cutting Edinburg's lead 2-1.

San Angelo tied things at two in the top of the fourth after an RBI fielder's choice by Steve Rinuado that scored Joseph Hicks from third.

In the top of the fifth, the Colts grabbed the lead on an RBI single by Cody Hudson that scored Jordan Marks. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Hudson came into score on an RBI single by Jon Dziomba. Dziomba then stole second and moved to third on a throwing error and then came into score on a wild pitch making it 5-2 San Angelo.

Ryan Zimmerman (3-3) took the loss after he pitched eight innings and allowed five runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out five.

Eric Sheridan (5-3) earned the win after pitching eight innings and allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts.

Cephas Howard came on in the ninth and struck out the side for his fourth save of the season giving the Colts the 5-2 victory.

The Roadrunners have Monday off before hitting the road for nine games. They return to Edinburg Baseball Stadium on August 7 to open a four-game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings.
