Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
Matt Beech took the mound for the Bluefish giving up just three runs (one earned) on seven hits through six innings of work for the Bluefish in the 4-3 loss. Layfield picked up the loss for the Bluefish. Castillo earned the win for the Road Warriors.
Barry Wesson led off in the second inning for the bluefish with a single followed by a stolen base (12), putting him in scoring position for P.J. Rose to double him in and put the Bluefish up 1-0.
Norm Hutchins ripped a double down the right-field line in the third inning and was brought home by a Damian Rolls single to increase the lead to 2-0.
Bernie Gonzalez and Nick Ortiz both reached base for the Road Warriors in the top of the fourth. Gonzalez scored on a single by Manny Mejia and then Beech forced a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning.
Eickhorst walked the bases loaded in the fourth, setting up a Bluefish score as Rose came in to score on a passed ball.
Jason Bryan doubled down the left-field line to lead off the fifth. After a Fulse walk and Olivares single the bases were loaded. Gonzalez came up next and hit a ball up the middle that Nelson could not handle to score Bryan and Fulse.
Fulse got on base with a four pitch walk in the seventh then stole second and continued to score on a Olivarez grounder, giving the Road Warriors their first lead of the day (4-3).
The Bluefish got a runner on in the bottom of the ninth but a double play would end the game, the Bluefish falling to the Road Warriors 4-3.
