Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -The Greenville Road Warriors announced today that they have signed forward Andrew Carroll for the 2010-11 season.
"Andrew Carroll will be an excellent fit here in Greenville. He is a talented, hard-working player who also possesses a gritty style to his game. He is a character guy who just has a passion for hockey and understands that you have to work hard to be successful as a pro," said Head Coach Dean Stork.
A native of Shoreview, Minnesota, Carroll is entering his second season of pro hockey. As a rookie in 2009-10 with the Charlotte Checkers he led the team, and was fourth among ECHL rookies, with 30 goals. Carroll added 17 assists to finish third overall on the Checkers with 47 points. The 5-11, 195-pound left wing also amassed 94 penalty minutes last season, including nine fighting majors. His play helped the Checkers earn 43 wins, 94 points, and the top seed in the American Conference for the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Carroll added nine points (4G, 5A) in 11 playoff games.
The 25-year-old played four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. His best season as a Bulldog came as a freshman in 2005-06 as he finished fourth on the team with 23 points (13G, 10A) and 43 penalty minutes in 40 games. For his career, Carroll played in 153 games while earning 57 points (29G, 28A) and 113 penalty minutes. He was either a captain or alternate captain in each of his four seasons with UMD and as a senior was a finalist for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The award recognizes "student-athletes for great achievement during competition and in their community while staying in school" for four years.
The Road Warriors acquired the rights to Carroll last season in a trade with the Charlotte Checkers. He, along with Matt Schepke and Julien Brouillette, were the completion of the future considerations portion of the trade that sent Mike Bartlett and Trevor Hendrikx to Charlotte from the Johnstown Chiefs.
Carroll is the fourth player to sign with the Road Warriors this season. He joins forwards Schepke and Connor Shields as well as defenseman David Schulz.
