Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN - The Camden Riversharks announced today that they will be hosting an open tryout session at Campbell's Field on Saturday, April 4th at 9 a.m. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and there is a $30 fee for all participants. Players should bring their own wooden bats, gloves, footwear, and catching gear as needed. A tee shirt will be provided for all who tryout.

Representatives from the Riversharks and other Atlantic League officials will be present to scout those who attend. Both pitchers and field position players are welcome to tryout, but collegiate athletes will not be allowed to participate, as doing so can compromise their NCAA eligibility.

The last two open tryout sessions that the Riversharks have hosted led to the signings of local players. Last season, pitcher Matt Flannery of Audubon, New Jersey left the tryout session with a contract in hand. He went on to appear in 44 games for the Riversharks in 2008.

In 2007, pitcher Randy Dicken of Martinsburg, PA earned himself a Riversharks contract after participating in an open tryout with the team. Dicken appeared in 23 games for the Riversharks that season, and has since gone on to play for the Pennsylvania Road Warriors and Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.

"The open tryouts have been good to us in the past, and we've been able to find top notch talent from right here in our own backyard," said Riversharks Manager, Joe Ferguson. "We're hopeful that we'll be able to find someone who can contribute to the team again this year," he added.

The Riversharks open the 2009 season on Thursday, April 23rd, against the Somerset Patriots. The team's home opener will be on Friday, May 1st, at 7:05 PM, against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Individual and group tickets are on sale online at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
