Camden Riversharks News Release
The Camden Riversharks were defeated by the York Revolution tonight, by a final score of 7-3. Camden starter Ryan DiPietro (5-10) suffered the loss, as he gave up 5 runs on 10 hits in 7 innings of works. York's Daryl Harang (8-12) earned the win, as he gave up just 3 runs and 7 hits in 7.2 innings pitched. With the loss, the Riversharks' second half tally falls to 25-34, while York's improves to 25-35.
The Revolution came out swinging and took an early lead in the first inning. With runners on the corners, left fielder Matt Esquivel blooped a single to right field, driving in P.J. Rose and giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage. York was in position to add to their lead, but stranded the bases loaded to end the inning.
The Revolution would extend their lead in the 5th inning and drive two more runs across the plate. With runners on first and second, designated hitter Tom Collaro laced a double down the left field line, plating Aharon Eggleston and Keoni DeRenne, giving York a 3-0 lead. They would tack on one more run the following inning, courtesy of an RBI fielder's choice by Eggleston that scored Jamar Hill.
York's Matt Esquivel would put the Riversharks into an even deeper hole in the 7th inning, as he blasted a long fly ball over the left field wall. The solo homerun was his 18th of the season, and gave the visitors a 5-0 lead.
The Sharks' bats would finally come to life in the 8th inning, and they would cut York's lead down to two runs. An RBI double by shortstop Bryant Nelson drove in Chris Walker for Camden's first run of the night, and Nelson would also cross the plate when Brian Burgamy singled to right later in the inning. Left fielder Garrett Guzman would then score Burgamy with a sacrifice fly to left field that made the score 5-3 in favor of the Revolution.
York would add on a few insurance runs in the final frame, and take a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the 9th. An RBI single by Collaro would bring DeRenne across the plate, and a ground out by Esquivel would score Rose for the second run of the inning. With a four run lead, the Revolution would put the ball in the hands of closer Jason Kershner, who retired the side in order and preserved the 7-3 victory for the visitors.
Next up, the Riversharks will hit the road for a four game series against the Newark Bears. They will return to Campbell's Field for the final homestand of the season and take on the Bridgeport Bluefish. Limited seating is still available. Visit www.riversharks.com to purchase tickets.
