Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, NJ - The Camden Riversharks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Saturday night, by a final score of 5-2. Starting pitcher Dewon Brazelton pitched six strong innings, giving up only four hits and one earned run.
After two scoreless innings to start the game, Camden took the lead in the third frame. Left fielder Jeff Vincent started things off with a lead off single. Two batters later, Val Majewski doubled to left field, driving home Vincent, and giving the Riversharks a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Southern Maryland tied the game, with a solo homerun by center fielder Jeremy Owens. One batter later, it appeared as though the Blue Crabs would take the lead, but Lance Burkhart was robbed of a homerun by a fantastic leaping catch by Jeff Vincent.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Riversharks added a second run, as former national league all star Junior Spivey hit an RBI singled that drove home designated hitter Chris Walker, and gave Camden a 2-1 lead.
Southern Maryland tied the game at two in the top of the seventh inning. Eric Crozier hit a lead off triple and came home to score on a one base error by center fielder Wayne Lydon. But Camden answered right back in the bottom of the inning with and RBI single by Brett Bonvechio.
The Riversharks put up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. Junior Spivey again stepped to the plate with runners in scoring position, and drove in two runs as he singled to left field. Spivey's clutch hitting gave the Riversharks a 5-2 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Riversharks and Blue Crabs will play the final game of their three game series Sunday, at 1:05pm at Campbell's Field. Limited Seating is still available. Call 1-866-SHARKS-9.
