
Riverrats Look To Turn Around Season Against Rival Reading

ERIE, PA - (3/5/09) The Erie RiverRats hope to turn their fortunes around against their division rival, the Reading Express, this Sunday at the Tulio Convention Center in Erie. Both teams are coming off last second losses as Erie (0-5) lost their last game on the last play of the game on a QB plunge by the Harrisburg Stampede. The Express (3-2) are coming off a loss to the Baltimore Mariners, a game where they led the game up until the end.
Darmel Whitfield will again be under center for the RiverRats after sparking the offense in last weeks contest. He will be joined by receivers Chris Kolokithas, Aaron Haynes, Tremaine Riley and former Gannon standout, Sam Culberth. Offensive lineman Anthony Peluso will return to the starting lineup despite straining ligaments in his knee last week, Peluso anchors an offensive line that has steadily been improving. Defensively, the team is led by linebacker Glenroy Watkins and defensive end Neal Wood. Raji El-Amin and Taurean Valentine are expected to start in the secondary for the Rats, both of whom scored defensive touchdowns against Reading in their first meeting. Lavonne Rowan is expected to miss Sunday's contest with a wrist injury.
The AIFA season begins its third season of operations in March with 16 teams from coast to coast and two additional franchises (Richmond, VA and Trenton, NJ) scheduled for the 2010 season.
