Erie Explosion News Release
The Pittsburgh RiverRats of the American Indoor Football Association beat the Danville Demolition 47-21 at the Ice Garden Arena on Sunday for its first win in franchise history.
Brian Eyerman was given his first start at quarterback for Pittsburgh (1-3, 1-2) and completed 10-15 for 86 yards and 3 touchdown passes in the first half, including one to WR Marko Thomas, and two to David Dinkins, playing his first game at WR following 3 starts at QB. Dayon Chambers added a rushing touchdown and the RiverRat defense ended the first half with a 4-play goal-line stand sending Pittsburgh to the lockerroom leading by a score of 28-14 at intermission.
Danville (0-3, 0-3) started the second half with a touchdown drive capped by a 4-yard TD run by quarterback Willie Davis. On the ensuing possession, Eyerman went down with an apparent groin injury and did not return for the rest of the game. David Dinkins returned to the RiverRat huddle at QB and showed off his remarkable versatility, adding 2 more touchdowns. For the game, Dinkins totalled 4 scores, including 2 receiving, 1 passing, and 1 rushing. Dayon Chambers added his second rushing touchdown of the game, which for all intents and purposes, put the game away at 35-21 near the end of the 3rd quarter.
However, it was the RiverRat defense that secured the win against the Demolition, including 2 interceptions, 4 sacks, a fumble recovery, and shutting out Danville for all but the first drive in the second half. DT Phil Tillman and DE JoValle McKenzie recorded 1 1/2 sacks apiece, DB Eugene Padgett and DB Reggie Blanchard each had an interception, while LB T.J. Carden and Padgett led Pittsburgh in tackles with 8 and 7 respectively.
In an interesting twist of the schedule, Pittsburgh and Danville will meet up once again for the second time in 6 days, with the next game scheduled for Danville on Friday, March 9. www.pittsburghriverrats.com or call (724) 379-4070.
