Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen kicked off a five-game road trip with a 2-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena. Adam Cracknell and Jaden Schwartz scored for Peoria while Mike McKenna stopped 28 of 29 to pick up his second win of the year.

With the win, the Rivermen improved to 7-10-2-2 (18 points) and have now won nine of their last 11 games played in Grand Rapids.

After a fast-paced, but scoreless, first period, Adam Cracknell scored an unassisted goal at 4:18 in the second period. He found a loose puck in the high slot and snapped one between a defender's legs and over the shoulder of Petr Mrazek for his third of the season.

Just a few minutes later, the two teams traded goals while Peoria was on a power play. Riley Sheahan scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 8:26 to tie up the game for Grand Rapids while Tomas Jurco was in the penalty box for goaltender interference.

Then, 67 seconds later, Jaden Schwartz tapped a goal to cap off a 3-on-1 break with T.J. Hensick and Phil McRae. It was Schwartz's sixth goal of the season and proved to be the game-winner.

Peoria had to kill off the final 1:18 of the third period after a Derek Nesbitt high-sticking penalty but held on for the 2-1 win. The Rivermen were 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and finished 1-for-2 on the power play.

The road trip continues for Peoria on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they face the Texas Stars. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM, online through www.rivermen.net and live video can be found at www.ahllive.com.
