Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA, Ill. (July 13, 2009) - The Peoria Rivermen will remain in the American Hockey League's West Division for the upcoming season following a realignment of the 29-team league. The Texas Stars (Dallas) is the lone addition to the division while the Iowa Chops (suspended) and the Quad City Flames (relocated to Abbotsford) are no longer part of the West.

Aside from the Stars, Peoria will compete against the Chicago Wolves, Houston Aeros, Milwaukee Admirals, Rockford IceHogs, and San Antonio Rampage. The Rivermen will play the Wolves, Admirals and IceHogs a total of 10 times each during the regular season while competing against the Aeros, Rampage and Stars eight times.

The top four teams in the division will qualify for the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs. The fifth-place team in the West will no longer have the ability to cross over and compete in the North Division playoffs.

Peoria will play every team in the North Division, with the exception of the Rochester Americans, for a total of 13 games. The 2009-10 regular season will begin on Oct. 2. The complete schedule will be announced later this summer.
