Rivermen Announce Pink in the Rink Date

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen and the area Mary Kay Independent Sales Directors and Beauty Consultants are proud to announce Pink in the Rink for 2008 on Friday, October 17 as the Rivermen host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 pm.

Pink in the Rink will benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation (MKACF). The MKACF is a leading contributor to the fight against cancers that affect women as well as domestic abuse, which will be front and center to this year's campaign. The entire night on Friday, October 17 will be dedicated to creating awareness in the Central Illinois Community for both issues.

To help raise funds through Pink in the Rink, Mary Kay Independent Sales Directors and Beauty Consultants will be selling tickets to that night's game at $15 each, with a portion of the proceeds going to MKACF. Rivermen players will also don specialty jerseys in honor of Pink in the Rink that night, with the uniforms auctioned off following the game to benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation as well.

"Pink in the Rink is about using the power of pink to achieve big goals," said Mary Kay Independent Senior Sales Director Becky Davies. "This past year Illinois received several grants from the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation. Seven grants were awarded to women's shelters and another aids continued research on targeted therapies for breast cancer."

"We are truly excited to be part of Pink in the Rink because of its profound effects right here in the Central Illinois community," said Rivermen COO Josh Morin. "The ladies of Mary Kay have come on board with tremendous enthusiasm and are dedicated to raising funds for these great causes. We are honored to be able to help."

ABOUT MKCAF:

Virtually everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. Mary Kay's personal encounter came in 1980 when her husband, Mel Ash, died of lung cancer. Subsequently, each time a member of the extended Mary Kay family was diagnosed, she became even more determined to work to find a cure. In 1987, Mary Kay decided to put her money where her heart was and asked the independent sales force and employees at Mary Kay Inc. to do the same. Together they began raising funds for cancer research, and in 1996, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation was established to formalize the raising and distributing of research funds for cancers affecting women.

Since 1997, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation has supported top medical scientists nationwide who are searching for a cure for the cancers that affect women, including breast, cervical, uterine and ovarian. This year, the Foundation awarded $1.5 million in research grants to a select group of research scientists.

Since 2000, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation has awarded millions of dollars to women's shelters across the country. From 2005 through 2007, the Foundation has awarded $20,000 grants, totaling $3 million, to 150 shelters in all 50 states for each of these years.
