WEEK IN REVIEW (4-0-0)
Friday, January 5
Memphis 5 Oklahoma City 2 @ OKC
Travis Banga scored two goals and Derek Landmesser scored his 100th career goal. Banga also added an empty net goal to ice the game. The RiverKings built a 4-0 lead with goals from Brad Wanchulak late in the first, and Banga, Derek Campbell and Landmesser in the second. Wanchulak was playing his first game with the RiverKings since returning from Europe.
The Blazers cut it to two at 4-2 with under five minutes remaining before Banga's empty netter. Larry Sterling made several key saves on in-close chances, finishing with 34 saves.
Saturday, January 6
Memphis 7 Tulsa 6 @ TUL
The RiverKings and Oilers went past regulation for the fourth time in as many games this season. Derek Landmesser's power play goal 1:26 into overtime gave the RiverKings the win in a wild see-saw game. The RiverKings built a 3-1 lead early in a wild eight goal second period, only to have the Oilers score the next four to take a 5-3 lead. The RiverKings would then counter with three straight of their own to take a 6-5 advantage into the third period. Tulsa scored the only goal of the third to force the overtime. Jason Sessa scored two goals and added an assist to lead the RiverKings offensively. Defensively, Brad Buss came in to relieve Larry Sterling, played the final 34:43 and stopped 14 of 15 shots to pick up his first win as a RiverKing. Memphis was also eight for eight on the penalty kill. Also scoring for the RiverKings were Rick Kozak, Steve Makway, Phil Aucoin and Ryan Campbell. Landmesser added three assists to go with his game winner with Dumont assisting on three goals and Aucoin adding two to go with his goal.
Sunday, January 7
Memphis 3 Corpus Christi 2 @ DCC
The RiverKings won their fifth straight and completed a three games in three nights sweep. Memphis built a 3-2 lead on first period goals by Derek Campbell and Rick Kozak, and a third period tally from Ryan Campbell. The Rayz made the game close as Matt Turek scored a pair of goals on scrambles in front of the net in the third to cut the lead to one. Goalie Larry Sterling played very well as did the RiverKings' penalty kill. Sterling stopped 32 of 34 shots and made several key saves while the PK was six for six.
Tuesday, January 9
Memphis 3 Tulsa 0 @ DCC
Larry Sterling registered his fourth career shutout and the RiverKings extended their win streak to 6 games in the win. Tyler McGregor, Derek Campbell and Jason Sessa scored for Memphis as the team ran its season record versus the Oilers to 5-0-0. It was the first game in the series that has not gone past regulation. The RiverKings defense limited the Oilers offense to just 15 shots while the penalty kill was six for six.

LANDMESSER IS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Central Hockey League announced Monday that RiverKings defenseman Derek Landmesser is the Oakley CHL Player of the Week after collecting eight points in three games over the weekend. This marks the second week in a row that a RiverKings player has been the Player of the Week and the third weekly award overall this season for the team. Travis Banga won the award last week, while Larry Sterling was the Goalie of the Week in late October. Team Captain and All-Star Landmesser started the weekend by scoring the 100th goal of his pro career while also adding three assists in a 5-2 win at Oklahoma City Friday night. He then followed that the next night with the overtime game winning goal and three assists in a wild 7-6 victory at Tulsa. The 11th year pro currently leads all CHL defensemen in scoring with 39 points and 31 assists. He is the team assists leader and tied with Travis Banga for the team overall scoring lead. Earlier this season, he passed Derek Grant as the franchise's all-time assists leader.
RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE
The RiverKings penalty kill has not allowed a goal since the second period of the team's win at Youngstown on 12/30. That's a span of 4 games and just over one period of perfect penalty killing and a total of 28 straight penalties killed off. The penalty kill has moved from 14th to 10th in the CHL during the span and is currently at 83.8%. Also, in the last 12 games the RiverKings have allowed more than one power play goal in a game only once, 12/29 at YNG.
The RiverKings' shutout of Tulsa on Tuesday night was their second of the season. The last season the RiverKings had more than 1 shutout was the 2003-04 season, when the team registered 4.
The 15 shots that the RiverKings held Tulsa to on Tuesday night, matches the season low for a Memphis opponent this season. The RiverKings also held the Wichita Thunder to 15 shots in a 6-2 win at the DCC on December 15.
With his goal last night, Ryan Campbell is on a 5 game point streak with 5 goals and 3 assists in that stretch.
Derek Campbell has 3 goals in the last 4 games. His total of 10 goals for the season represents a career high.
Defensemen Derek Landmesser and Jason Tessier as well as goalie Larry Sterling will be participating in the 2007 All Star Game and the accompanying events next week. They will participate in the All Star Banquet Tuesday evening at the Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City, will practice at the Century Tel Center Wednesday morning, take part in the Fan Fest at the Louisiana Boardwalk Wednesday afternoon and then play in the game itself at approximately 7:15 Wednesday evening. A Full list All-Star Events can be found at www.centralhockeyleague.com.
The RiverKings' 23-6-3 record is the team's second best record at the midway point of a season in the team's history. In the 2001-2002 season, the team had a 25-6-1 mark through 32 games.
