(Southaven, MS) --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have announced the signing of forward Tyler Bellamy for the 2009-2010 season. Bellamy comes to the CHL Northeast Division champion RiverKings after leading Augustana University (Alberta) in scoring the past two seasons.

Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski feels Bellamy will fit nicely into the RiverKings' lineup. "He is a leader, has great work ethic, and is a competitor who loves to take the body," Kaminski said.

At six-feet and 190 pounds, Bellamy played 106 games over five seasons at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) school, scoring 38 goals for 90 points, while collecting 259 penalty minutes. Bellamy also played in 12 playoff games for the Vikings, scoring twice and earning five points with 24 penalty minutes.

Kaminski expects Bellamy to contribute at both ends of the ice. "He has good size, is great on face-offs, and takes pride in his own zone. He should be fun to watch and we expect him to chip in offensively."

In his last two hockey campaigns at Augustana, the Revelstoke, British Columbia native has led the Vikings in points. Last season, Bellamy was the team leader in assists and two years ago led Augustana in goals scored. Bellamy also was a leader for the Vikings in power play goals during his 2006-07 and 2007-08 campaigns.

Bellamy says he's looking forward to playing for the RiverKings. "I think every player wants to continue to move up the ladder and playing in the Central League is something I have always wanted to do," Tyler says. "I have heard great things about the RiverKings organization and Coach Kaminski and I am just looking forward to coming there and contributing."

Tyler played at Augustana under Blaine Gusdal, a teammate of Kaminski's during their junior hockey days in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Gusdal believes Bellamy will benefit from playing under the second-year RiverKings' coach. "Kevin Kaminski was the prototypical team player who loved to win and was always there for his teammates," says Gusdal. "I believe Tyler is a perfect fit for the type of team that Kevin wants and I am confident Kevin will be able to get the very best from "Bells", both on and off the ice."

Prior to his career at Augustana, Bellamy played left wing for Prince George of the British Columbia Hockey League, scoring seven goals and earning 15 points, while collecting 112 penalty minutes in 31 appearances.
