Rick Kozak scored twice to lead the Mississippi RiverKings over the Wichita Thunder 4-0 tonight at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Kozak beat Jon Horrell to the glove side on a breakaway 8:31 into the game for his ninth goal of the season. It ultimately ended up as his league-leading sixth game-winning goal on the year.

But Kozak didn't stop there. He took a cross-slot pass from Derek Landmesser on the power play and slammed the puck home from the left wing doorstep at 14:02 of the first period to give the RiverKings a 2-0 lead.

Then Louis Dumont got into the act. He scored his second goal of the season on a slap shot from the left circle with 1:54 remaining in the first to give the RiverKings a 3-0 lead.

The Thunder's best chance to beat Sebastien Centomo came late in the second period, but he made two saves from point blank range. As the RiverKings grabbed the rebound and turned it up the ice, Chad Woollard pulled up at the right circle and fired home his 13th goal of the season with 4:10 to go in the second. Centomo, who made 21 saves on the night for this third shutout of the season, received an assist on the play.

Steve Makway had three assists for the RiverKings, who improved to 14-6-1 and pulled to within two points of the Youngstown SteelHounds for first place in the Northeast Division.

Horrell made 33 saves for the Thunder, who worsened its league-bottom record to 4-14.

The RiverKings visit the Tulsa Oilers on Friday at 7:35 p.m. The pre-game show on Sports 56 WHBQ begins at 7:25 p.m.
