RiverKings get hard-fought road win in Odessa

ODESSA, TX --- Phil Aucoin scored two goals as the Memphis RiverKings defeated the Odessa Jackalopes 5-3 Thursday night at the Ector County Coliseum. The win snapped a four game road winless streak and also dealt a blow to the Jackalopes' playoff hopes. The RiverKings now head south for games at Laredo on Saturday and at Rio Grande Valley on Sunday.

Thursday night's game was tied at one after one and at two after two. Odessa took a 3-2 lead at 9:15 of the third, but the RiverKings responded with three in a row: Jason Sessa tied the game at 10:17 with Phil Aucoin giving his team the lead for good at 11:46. Ryan Held put the finishing touches on the win with an empty netter.

Travis Banga also scored for the RiverKings as they improved to 37-15-6 and pulled to within two points of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in the race for the Northeast Division crown. Louis Dumont and Steve Makway also added two assists to the RiverKings attack.

The RiverKings outshot the Jackalopes 21-7 in the first and 37-35 for the game. Larry Sterling made 32 saves in picking up his 30th win of the season.

The Jackalopes are three points out of the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference with five games remaining.
