RiverKings finding local talent through National Anthem Auditions

September 13, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN—In the last three years, patriotism in the United States has soared and the country’s national anthem has become more meaningful to many people, including performers who have been called upon to sing it.

These singers will have the opportunity to show their passion and patriotism in performance—as well as get a shot at singing for a crowd of thousands—during the Memphis RiverKings National Anthem Auditions on Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during KingsFest at the DeSoto Civic Center.

The auditions are open to more than just local virtuosos. Choirs, groups, theater cast ensembles, and representatives of non-profit groups looking for further awareness are also encouraged to attend.

“Allowing non-profit organizations to provide an anthem singer at the game honors them and their country, while showing the pride they have in their individual missions in the community,” Community Relations Director Gary Saunders said.

Auditions are open to people of all ages. Auditionees should come prepared to sing a capella. Pitch pipes are allowed. Registration will be in the Grand Hall of the DeSoto Civic Center, at the West Entrance. Auditions will be held in the arenaÂ’s convention rooms 6 and 7.

“We are excited about this year’s auditions,” Director of Game Operations Gene Szucs said. “We were fortunate to have many talented men, women and children come and sing for us last year. We are looking forward to not only hosting well-known local talent but also helping unearth undiscovered vocalists. We encourage everyone who wishes to come out and audition.”
