Brahmas to play exhibition game at Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco

Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Fort Worth- For one night this October, the Fort Worth Brahmas will be showcasing their style of hockey on the other side of the Metroplex. On Saturday, October 16, the Brahmas will host the Oklahoma City Blazers in a Central Hockey League preseason game at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco, Texas. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Collin County facility.

The 3,600 seat Deja Blue arena at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco (2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco, Texas, 75034) will serve as the site of the Brahmas only home exhibition game. The Saturday night contest between the Brahmas and the Blazers will be the back end of a home and home exhibition series between the two clubs. On Friday, Oct. 15, the Brahmas will travel to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City for their preseason opener. The game at the Ford Center will be played at 7:30 p.m.

Seating for the game at the Dr Pepper StarCenter will be on a general admission basis. All tickets for the game will be $6. Individual game tickets for the contest will go on sale October 1 at the Brahmas team office. The Deja Blue arena at the Dr Pepper StarCenter does have a limited number of luxury suites, and those suites are available now to the public by contacting Bill Yates at the Brahmas team office (817-336-4423).

Fans that come to the game in Frisco will have a chance to meet the 2004-2005 Brahmas squad, as the entire team will be available at a postgame autograph signing in the west concourse of the Deja Blue arena. The Brahmas autograph signing will begin immediately following the completion of the game.

The Brahmas and the Blazers will use the two exhibition games to test a proposed future rule change for the CHL. In the two games, the respective coaches for each team, Al Sims of the Brahmas and Doug Sauter for the Blazers, will have the option of taking a penalty shot in lieu of a two-minute powerplay from a minor penalty called on the opposition. This penalty shot option could be used just once in each game, and would only be available in the first two periods of the games. The penalty shot option could only be used if the penalty was called during an even-strength situation, and would not be allowed in cases of an instigation or unsportsmanlike penalty. This "penalty shot option" will be in effect for both of the Brahmas preseason games against the Blazers.

Mike Barack, the Brahmas general manager, is looking forward to having his team play a "home" game in Frisco.

"This is a great opportunity to expose the Fort Worth Brahmas and the Central Hockey League to the sports fans in Collin and Dallas County. One of our main objectives for having this game in Frisco is to get the Brahmas name out to possible fans that may not be aware that we play professional hockey here in Tarrant County. The game itself should be an exciting one, as players from both the Brahmas and the Blazers will be competing for roster spots. Hopefully we can get a good turnout in Frisco," he stated.

The two preseason games against the Blazers will be the highlight of the Brahmas ten day training camp that will run from Oct. 11-Oct. 21. Details are being finalized right now on the location of the Brahmas training camp, and the team is expected to make an announcement on that issue in the immediate future.
