
RiverKings End Road Trip with 4-2 Win

PEORIA, Ill. - The Mississippi RiverKings (13-14-2) scored three goals in the second period and used that to defeat the Peoria Rivermen (15-9-2), 4-2, Sunday at Carver Arena in Peoria. Mississippi took two out of three in the three-in-three against the Rivermen.
The RiverKings got the important first goal 7:38 into the first period. Reid Campbell took a shot from the left point. Eric Levine made the initial save, but the rebound went in front. Devin Mantha got a piece of the rebound before Sean Jones whacked it over Levine's glove for a 1-0 lead.
Mississippi took control in the second period. Less than four minutes in the RiverKings doubled the lead when Mike Hayward's slap shot found the back of the net at 3:55. Matt Whitehead took the puck away in the offensive zone before giving it to Hayward for his fifth goal of the season. Devin Mantha put the RiverKings up 3-0 at 10:24 of the second. He received a pass from Bryon Paulazzo and raced down the left wing. After beating his man to the bottom of the left circle he cut across and beat Levine for a 3-0.
Peoria pulled back within two a few minutes later when Alec Hagaman scored unassisted to make it 3-1. The RiverKings got the momentum back late in the second when Andrew Randazzo scored his second goal of the year. He received a pass from Paulazzo to regain the three-goal lead.
Peoria made a push in the third against the RiverKings, playing their fourth game in five nights. Garrett Vermeersch scored at 2:52 on a pass in front from Dennis Sicard. The Rivermen outshot Mississippi 14-9 in the third, but Peter Di Salvo held on to get the RiverKings their third win on the season-long five-game road trip.
Notes: Devin Mantha finished with a season-high three points (1g, 2a), his third multi-point game... Reid Campbell (2a) had his first professional multi-point game and got his first point since his second game with the RiverKings Nov. 25... Bryon Paulazzo finished with his second multi-point game of the season.
