(Southaven, MS) -- Your Mississippi RiverKings will be "keepin' it clean" this weekend, pitching in to help the Adopt-A-Highway America program, aimed at removing litter from our local highways.

The RiverKings are asking for volunteers to help in the effort with team members and front office staffers this Saturday morning, September 13th, from 8 to 11 AM.

Participants are asked to meet at the DeSoto Civic Center parking lot at 8 AM, when materials will be handed out and litter collection will begin on the two-mile portion of U.S. Highway 51 from Church Road south to Star Landing Road in Southaven.

Immediately following the clean-up there will be a cook out hosted by the RiverKings organization. Please let the front office know of your particpation in advance by calling Cristin at 662-342-1755 before noon on Friday, September 12th.

The Adopt-a-Highway America program encourages private and civic organizations, and others to sponsor trash and litter pick up along highways throughout the nation. Since 2005, the RiverKings have been a part of this program.

Collecting roadside litter costs the state of Mississippi over two-million dollars each year. Through the Adopt-A-Highway program, thousands of volunteers help Mississippi's highways stay beautiful.

The RiverKings' 2008-09 Central Hockey League season begins Friday, October 17th at the DeSoto Civic Center against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 PM. Ticket packages remain on sale for an exciting season of RiverKings hockey, just call 662-342-1755 for more information, or click on-line to www.riverkings.com.
