
RiverKings Announce Trade with Knoxville

SOUTHAVEN, Miss - Mississippi RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Derek Landmesser announced today the acquistion of forward Michael Turner in a trade for Mitchell Vandergunst with the Knoxville Ice Bears. The RiverKings also announced the return of Matt Harrington and Corey Tyrell.
Turner, 21, was acquired from the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs by Knoxville before joining the RiverKings. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound forward played 25 games for Roanoke this season and earned 12 points (6G, 6A). The Oak Park, Illinois native also spent time this season in the ECHL with the Greenville Swamp Rabits where he scored a goal and three assists in 19 games. Vandergunst, 22, did not see anytime on the ice with the Mississippi RiverKings.
Harrington, who was called up on February 18, played two games with ECHL Florida and scored two points (1G,1A) before returning to the RiverKings on Monday. In yesterday's game against Columbus, the 5-foot-11, 193 pound forward scored a crucial goal in the shootout against the Cottonmouths that would help the team to a 3-2 victory. The North Point, Florida native has tallied six goals and 10 assists in 37 games this season with the RiverKings.
Tyrell, 26, also saw action in yesterday's game after being activated off from the 21-Day IR. The Airdrie, Alberta native is in his first season of professional hockey and has scored five points (2G, 3A) in nine games with the RiverKings. Prior to joining Mississippi, the 6-foot, 200 pound rookie played 19 games with the Columbus Cottonmouths and tallied five points (4G,1A).

The RiverKings return to the Landers Center for a home stand this Friday for Faith and Family Night night against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the RiverKings take on Roanoke for a second time for Pink in the Rink Night, where the RiverKings will wear special pink jerseys to honor women's cancer.
