Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh RIVERHOUNDS® (2-1-1, 7 points) welcome the West Virginia Chaos (1-1-0, 3 points) to Bethel Park Stadium Wednesday at 11 a.m. for the Second Annual School Day Game. The game is an exhibition game between the A-League RIVERHOUNDS® and the Premier Development League's Chaos.
More than 1000 children from 15 area schools will attend the special matinee game. Many of the schools received visits by Pittsburgh RIVERHOUNDS® players throughout the off season through the team's successful school assembly and reading programs. The game is also open to the public with all tickets at the gate available for $8.
All children and fans in attendance will receive a poster designed by Kristofer Pomiecko, a fourth-grade student at Ramsey Elementary School in the Gateway School District. Pomiecko entered the RIVERHOUNDS®-Tobacco Free Allegheny Poster Contest, which asked students to illustrate "Why It's Important to Me to Be Tobacco Free." His poster was re-created into a giveaway for the game, and he received four season tickets to the RIVERHOUNDS® and a RIVERHOUNDS® T-shirt.
Brent Vega, a fourth grader at St. Clare of Assisi School and Jennifer Miller, a fifth grader at St. Joan of Arc School, tied for second place. The third place winner was Elaine McDaniel, a first grader at Ramsey Elementary.
All four winners will be honored during halftime at the game.
The Chaos - the first United Soccer Leagues franchise in West Virginia - opened their inaugural season Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the Greenville (South Carolina) Lions. They dropped their second game, 3-0, to the Raleigh CASL Elite on Sunday.
The Chaos roster is comprised of 26 players with varying levels of experience including high school, college and adult amateur players. The team competes in the Mid Atlantic Division of the Premier Development League - a national developmental league for men's soccer. The PDL provides top U.S. and Canadian players with the opportunity to play in a professional setting during the summer months while maintaining their college eligibility.
Players hail from throughout West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, England, Scotland, New Zealand, Greece and Armenia.
The game does not count for either team in the standings since it is an exhibition game. It will provide Head Coach Tim Carter an opportunity to give playing time to several players who have not played much or who are coming off injury. He will also rest several players.
Parking for this game is free but will be limited to the lower parking lot adjacent to the Perkey Field baseball area at Bethel Park High School. Gates open at 9:30 a.m.
The next regular-season home game for the Hounds is Memorial Day - May 26 - at 3 p.m. against the Richmond Kickers in the second leg of Open Cup qualifying. A special Old Fashioned Memorial Day Picnic follows the game. For more information about tickets or official RIVERHOUNDS® merchandise, call 412-381-4625 or visit www.riverhounds.com.
