July 1, 2006 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
The Riverhounds Football Club defeated the Cincinnati Kings 2-0 Saturday night at Falconi Field, and moved into fourth place in the United Soccer League (USL) Second Division with 17 points on the season.
"We knew we had to take home field advantage this weekend," Riverhounds head coach Gene Klein said. "We wanted to take six points away this weekend, and we did it with different players stepping up and helping us out."
The Riverhounds (4-2-5) have won back-to-back games on back-to-back days with eight games left on the schedule against USL Second Division teams. At the end of the season, the top four teams in the division will advance to the playoffs.
The HOUNDS took the early lead in the ninth minute when mid-fielder Gabe Bernstein scored a goal off an assist by defender Cody Bragg off a free kick. The goal was Bernstein's second of the season and the assist was Bragg's fifth of the season. The Riverhounds took a 1-0 lead at halftime.
As soon as the second half whistle blew, the Riverhounds offense attacked when mid-fielder Greg Victor recorded his first goal of the season at the 46th minute mark. Bragg got the assist on the goal.
Goalkeeper Chris Robinson was credited with the shutout victory and improved his record to 1-1-2 on the season. Robinson made three saves in net.
The Riverhounds out-shot the Kings 13-9.
The Riverhounds will be in action next Saturday when they host the New Hampshire Phantoms (6-3-1), third in the USL Second Division, in a pivotal USL match-up. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at Falconi Field. It's AMO's Army Night, all members will receive a team replica jersey.
