Riverhounds Open Preseason at Highmark Stadium

Western, Pa. -- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds began their preseason training at Highmark Stadium on Monday, March 11th. The First Team is slated to train twice each day for the remainder of March, which will include seven exhibition matches during the three-week camp.

The players officially reported on Sunday to the Greentree SportsPlex, the official indoor training center of the Riverhounds, for a team meeting. Following the brief meeting twenty of the teams' players headed to the home of Head Coach Justin Evans for a home cooked meal, to establish chemistry and 'break bread' as a new family.

The first two days of training at Highmark Stadium were filled with technical and tactical sessions, allowing the players to become acquainted with each other's talents. Aiding the players in preparation for each training session, Riverhounds Director of Sports Science, Michael Whiteman has implemented a progressive 30 minute warm- up regimen to strengthen and lengthen the player's muscles.

Opening their preseason exhibition schedule against two amateur Clubs, the Riverhounds will welcome the New England Force to Highmark Stadium on Thursday. On Monday, the Riverhounds will square-off with Bridges FC, a team comprised of Nike sponsored players looking to sign international playing contracts through a set of trials organized by the sponsor. Both games will be "Closed-Doors" at Highmark Stadium.

The Riverhounds remaining five exhibition games will include four Division I collegiate programs and USL PRO region-rival, the Rochester Rhinos. The Riverhounds will play the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, and the Rhinos at their stadiums, while hosting West Virginia and the University of Virginia at Highmark Stadium.
