Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

It's the time of year when soccer teams begin to focus on tactical training sessions in preparation for the outdoor season at the expense of specialized areas such as goalkeeper training.

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds' new Goalkeeper Academy aims to offset the shortfall by offering a specific year-round program to all goalkeepers in the Western Pennsylvania region that works in conjunction with their clubs' training demands.

Erik Eisenhut, director of Specific Soccer Training for the Riverhounds, oversees the program that includes seven coaches with cumulative experience from playing in the UEFA Champions League, national team games and NCAA College Cup championships. Eisenhut holds state, regional and national goalkeeping coaching diplomas from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Our unique offering of current professional and collegiate goalkeepers as staff members will enable your child to visually learn the position by way of demonstration.

Why do we believe that year-round goalkeeper training is important?

Continuous application of proper technique is key to the constant development of goalkeepers at any age and level. Our sessions will allow you to stay mechanically sharp and to meet your specific needs.

Who benefits from a year-round goalkeeper training platform?

The participant wins as they will develop into a stronger, more fundamentally sound goalkeeper. The soccer club wins as they will receive an improved goalkeeper upon their return.

How can I get updates on how my goalkeeper is progressing?

Coach Eisenhut is available to speak to all club representatives, parents and participating goalkeepers on a regular basis. We openly invite the directors and coaches from all participating clubs to observe our training sessions and appreciate your feedback.

Our year-round commitment to goalkeeper excellence has been created to solely focus on your goalkeeper's growth and development. We strive to exceed all expectations from the club as well as from the goalkeepers.

Spring Academy For New Players

As the current 2014-2015 Winter session comes to a close, we are now offering a Spring Academy program to NEW players that are not currently in The Academy. The Spring Academy will work with the 8.9.10, and 11.12.13 age groups on Monday evenings, beginning April 13th and concluding May 11th. This is a perfect opportunity for players who are not currently involved in The Riverhounds Academy to get a taste of the training in a five week accelerated course. It will aim to demonstrate our unique training techniques through an enthusiastic and introductory approach to key soccer habits and core skill sets. In addition to the technical soccer training, each player will undergo Speed and Strength training. This will include age-appropriate workouts to develop balance, coordination, core/absolute strength, and proper speed mechanics.

SPRING FUTURES PROGRAM (4,5,6yrs)

The future of soccer in this area rests on the shoulders of our youngest competitors: the Futures. The Riverhounds Academy staff sees this as the starting point in the development of all of our younger players. The objective of the Futures program is to focus on players aged 4,5, 6 years old and is designed to prepare young children for the fun and excitement of participating in soccer. It is here that The Academy staff can build and create good work habits for each player in the program, as well as offer a curriculum that works on balance, coordination, and age appropriate strength development. With a focus on enjoyment, these players will realize the talent they possess in a positive and professional environment.

It should be very clear that this is a structured developmental program where behavior is closely monitored. Each Futures group is controlled in the number of participants, so as to maximize an appropriate student:teacher ratio.

The 2015 Riverhounds Spring Futures program is now open for registration. Futures program will work with boys and girls who are 4, 5, and 6 years old.
