Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of midfielder Stefan Defregger to their 2015 USL roster.
Defregger makes his professional debut with the Hammerheads after finishing his collegiate career at Dartmouth College and capturing the Ivy League Championship followed by a win in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The midfielder was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team to cap off his career with the Big Green.
"I am very excited to be joining the Hammerheads this season," said Defregger. "We have tight locker room and I am excited to begin to contribute to a promising 2015 season. This is an exciting year for the club and I am extremely happy to begin my professional career in such a special place."
Defregger totaled one goal and seven assists during his time at Dartmouth. He was All-New England selection during his junior and senior seasons.
The New Hampshire native participated in an open tryout held by the Hammerheads in February in North Carolina. His talent caught the eye of Wilmington Hammerheads FC Technical Director and Head Coach Carson Porter who later extended the offer to the midfielder to take part in preseason training.
"We are really excited about Stefan [Defregger] joining us in Wilmington," said Porter. "He was a player that came to an open tryout, earned an invitation to preseason and quickly integrated himself into our team. He has great feet, he can play a number of roles in our team and is someone that has a very bright future. He is already earning minutes and had a good performance in preseason versus the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a penalty with some quality combination play."
The Hammerheads kick off their 2015 USL regular season at 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 28 versus the Richmond Kickers at Legion Stadium. Season ticket packages and single tickets are now available for purchase online.
