Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh RIVERHOUNDS® handed the West Virginia Chaos a 6-0 defeat in front of 1,129 screaming children at Bethel Park Stadium in the team's second annual School Day Game.
The morning exhibition game was designed as a field trip destination for area schools. Children ranging from third through eighth grade attended the game from 15 different schools.
The Riverhounds scored three goals in each of the halves. Forward Aleksey Korol scored two goals and midfielders Ricardo Villar and Brent Jacquette and forwards David Flavius and Corey Woolfolk each tallied one. Jacquette, a rookie out of Penn State University, scored his first professional goal.
The Chaos compete in the United Soccer Leagues' Premier Development League, which provides a place where male soccer players can develop in a professional setting without losing their college eligibility. The Chaos is based in Charleston, WV, and competes in the Mid Atlantic Division of the PDL. Other teams in the division hail from North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina.
Also as part of the game-day activities, Tobacco Free Allegheny and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds recognized winners of the Tobacco Free Allegheny Poster Contest. The top prize winner was Kristofer Pomiecko, a fourth-grade student at Ramsey Elementary School in the Gateway School District.
Tying for second place were Jennifer Miller, a fifth-grade student at St. Joan of Arc School in South Park, and Brent Vega, a fourth-grade student at St.. Clare of Assisi School in Clairton. Rounding out the winners was Elaine McDaniel, a first grader at Ramsey Elementary.
The Hounds return home to Bethel Park Stadium May 26 for the second half of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying against the Richmond Kickers. Game time is 3 p.m. Following the game, the Hounds present an Old Fashioned Memorial Day Picnic on the field.
