Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
CINCINNATI (August 12)-The Riverhounds FC (8-6-6) clinched a playoff spot in the United Soccer Leagues Second Division Saturday night when they defeated The Cincinnati Kings 2-0 in Cincinnati.
The Riverhounds' seeding has yet to be determined. The top four teams in the division move on to the post season.
The Riverhounds scored their two goals before the 10 minute mark of the first half. The first goal came in the fourth minute from Mike Apple, and the second came during the ninth minute of play from Jean Robens with an assist from Apple. Both were floaters that were just out of the reach of Kings goalie Jordan James.
"Mike Apple gave us a big lift early with a tremendous goal," said head coach Gene Klein. "We're really pleased; this team has worked so hard and overcome a lot of adversity to get here."
Both teams were penalized early in the second half for a scuffle near the benches, with Jon Caldwell of the Kings and Riverhounds Daniel Hartung red carded and disqualified for violent conduct.
