Cincinnati Kings News Release

CINCINNATI (August 12)--The Cincinnati Kings are in the post season for the first time in their two-year history, even though they lost their final regular season home game, 2-0, to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in United Soccer Leagues Second Division action Saturday night.

The Kings are guaranteed a playoff spot because the Richmond Kickers defeated the New Hampshire Phantoms Saturday night. The Kings' seeding will be termined after today's games. The top four teams in the division move on to the post season.

A franchise record crowd of 1,776 saw the Kings dig themselves in a hole early against Pittsburgh, as the Riverhounds scored their two goals before the 10 minute mark of the first half. The first goal came in the fourth minute from Mike Apple, and the second came during the ninth minute of play from Jean Robens. Both were floaters that were just out of the reach of Kings goalie Jordan James.

The Kings played even with the Riverhounds the rest of the way, but were not able to score. Both teams were penalized early in the second half for a scuffle near the benches, with Jon Caldwell of the Kings and Pittsburgh's Daniel Hartung red carded and disqualified for fighting.

The Kings wrap up the regular season with a 7:30 p.m. road game tonight at Western Mass.
