Riverhawks fall to Heroes, 38-23

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The "Luck of the Irish" was not on the side of the Johnstown Riverhawks on Friday night as the Huntington Heroes defeated the Riverhawks 38-23 at Musser Forests Field at Cambria County War Memorial.

Even with the Riverhawks sporting green jerseys to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, Johnstown found itself down early to Huntington as Heroes Quarterback Fred Ray connected with Shane Holsinger on the game's second play to give Huntington a 7-0 lead.

The Heroes added to their lead shortly after Holsinger's touchdown grab as defensive back Larry Davis picked off Johnstown quarterback Waylon Davis and raced 39 yards to the end zone to give Huntingdon a 13-0 lead. Johnstown responded on its next possession as Davis hooked up with receiver Terrence Hudson for a 7-yard strike. Jason Cherry's point-after kick pulled the Riverhawks within six points at 13-7.Cherry added a 41-yard field goal in the second quarter to draw the Riverhawks within four points. The Heroes pushed in another touchdown late in the second when Fred Ray scored on a 1-yard run, making the score 20-9 atthe half.

Trailing 24-9 in the third after Huntington kicker Travis Paul booted a field goal and followed with a rouge through the uprights, Johnstown's Carlos Campbell returned a missed field goal try by Paul 57 yards to pay dirt. Cherry's point-after made it 24-16. The Heroes tallied a pair of touchdowns in the fourth, sandwiching a 7-yard touchdown grab by Johnstown native Quenteen Robinson. Huntingdon scored on 2 touchdowns by receiver James Hawkins (9 & 18 yards), with Hawkins' second touchdown grab setting the final.

Johnstown returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Canton for a 7 p.m. kickoff against the Legends.
