RiverHawks Fall Short in Huntsville

January 14, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The return to the lineup of forwards Neil Graham and Ryan Olidis were not enough for the Augusta RiverHawks Friday night as they fell to the Huntsville Havoc 4-2 in Alabama. Back-to-back power play goals just a minute and ten seconds apart in the first period gave the Havoc a lead they would not relinquish.

Havoc goaltender Dan McWhinney made 24 saves to seal a victory that gives the Havoc a four-point lead over the RiverHawks for third place in the SPHL.

Graham and Olidis teamed up with captain Matt Auffrey for the RiverHawks first goal, while Jason Price would need no help in scoring the team's other goal unassisted.

Kyle Laughlin and Mike Carter scored the first period power-play goals for the Havoc. Mike McMillan and Jason Kretzer would also add tallies to round out the scoring.

Adam Avramenko made his second start of the season for the RiverHawks, also stopping 24 shots in the loss. He was backed up by Jordan McLaughlin who was re-signed by the RiverHawks earlier in the day after Jon Olthuis was called up to the Dayton Gems of the Central Hockey League.

The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, February 4th as they face the Columbus Cottonmouths. The puck drops at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at the James Brown Arena Box Office, by calling 1-877-4AUGTIX, or by visiting www.georgialinatix.com.
