
Riverdragons Hosting "Doctors vs. Lawyers Charity Basketball Game" This Friday

COLUMBUS, Ga., April 5 â The Columbus Riverdragons in conjunction with Peachtree Natural Foods, the Columbus Doctors Association, and the Columbus Lawyers Association will host the First Annual "Doctors vs. Lawyers Charity Basketball Game" this Friday, April 9 at the Columbus Civic Center prior the Dragons game against Asheville.
Tip-off for the "Doctors vs. Lawyers" game is 5 p.m., as teams from the Doctors Association of Columbus and the Lawyers Association of Columbus will battle on the Civic Center floor for "vocational supremacy" in the Chattahoochee Valley. The Dragons will tip-off against the Asheville Altitude at 7 p.m..
Tickets are only $8 and include both the "Doctors vs. Lawyers" game and the Riverdragons game versus Asheville. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Riverdragons ticket office at (706) 225-1100, by visiting any of the ten Peachtree Natural Foods locations, or at the Columbus Civic Center box office. Those in attendance for the "Doctors vs. Lawyers" game will have a chance to win prizes such as free T-shirts and a trip to Florida. Proceeds from all tickets will benefit "Our House", a shelter for kids awaiting foster care. Doors open at 4:30 p.m..
"We're looking forward to seeing who has the 'moxie' to win the Doctors vs. Lawyers game," said Riverdragons team president J. Barry McMullin. "I have been impressed with the tireless efforts of the Doctors and Lawyers to promote this fun event and to raise money for a worthy cause the likes of 'Our House' ... we are fortunate to be part of such a great event."
Our House is a unique collaborative model for the state of Georgia, providing effective emergency placement and assessment for children who are victims of abuse and neglect. Located on 24 wooded acres in North Columbus, Our House is a full service facility with two residential wings, a commercial kitchen, dining room, gymnasium, areas for active and quiet play, study area, and 11,000 square feet of administrative space. Our House is having a substantial impact on the children and community by providing immediate emergency placement for children, reduced length of stay for children in care, intensive foster family resource development, and a recognized center for on-going community programs in prevention and intervention for at-risk families.
Along with the "Doctors vs. Lawyers" game, the Riverdragons will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt inside the Civic Center, starting at 6 p.m., as kids of all ages are invited to participate. The Easter Bunny will make a special appearance to preside over the Easter Egg Hunt and take photos with all in attendance. Kids will also be able to participate in activities such as Easter crafts and Easter games such as "Pin the Tail on the Bunny" and the "Spoon Walk".
