Charleston Lowgators News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 12) Sedric Webber torched his former team with 27 points off the bench to lead the Columbus Riverdragons to a 113-97 win over the Charleston Lowgators at the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday night. The Dragons drilled an NBDL season-high 12 three-pointers and were 25 for 28 from the free-throw line in the victory.
Columbus (13-22) led virtually the entire contest except for a few brief moments early in the first quarter. Down by as many as 20, the Lowgators (21-16) mounted several comebacks shaving their deficit to two at one point but would not get any closer. The Riverdragons held off the Lowgators final run in the fourth quarter thanks to an 11 for 12 performance from the line.
"We played with a lot of energy from the start and we shot the ball well from three-point land," Riverdragons coach Jeff Malone said. "We also had our best free-throw night of the year and played good defense in stretches."
Columbus jumped out of the gates with a 32-18 lead at the end of the first quarter. After the Lowgators cut their deficit to 53-46 at halftime, the Riverdragons outscored the home team by 12 in the third period. The Lowgators would get no closer than 11 in the final frame.
"After a slow start, I was proud of our guys for fighting back but we just couldn't get over the hump, Lowgators coach Doug Marty said. "I give (Columbus) a lot of credit for shooting so well from beyond the arc."
Along with Webber's big night, Erron Maxey added 25 points for the Riverdragons including a 5 for 5 exhibition from three-point land. Jeff Meyers contributed 15 points and Terence Morris had 14.
Tierre Brown's 21 points led the Lowgators and Ime Udoka chipped in with 19 and 11 rebounds.
Columbus will play at Asheville on Saturday night, while the Lowgators travel to Roanoke on Tuesday.
Notes: Columbus G Adam Harrington did not play because of an injured groin...Charleston G Jason Miskiri did not play because of an injured hamstring.
