Charleston RiverDogs News Release
(Charleston-SC)- On a wild night in Charleston, the RiverDogs snapped a three game losing streak by outlasting the Lakewood BlueClaws 14-8 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
The game was delayed by rain 2 hours and 49 minutes at the outset and after the skies cleared the teams combined for 22 runs, 32 hits and four errors as the RiverDogs took game one of the four game series.
Jason Pridie, Vince Harrison and John-Paul Davis had three hits each for Charleston. Pridie extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a single in the first inning and came around to score on a throwing error by Lakewood second baseman Jeremy Isenbower.
The third through sixth innings were simply a blur. The teams combined to score 19 runs in the four innings, with at least one run per half inning.
Charleston took a 3-1 lead in the third but Lakewood countered with three in the fourth. Charleston (23-17) came back with three of its own before Lakewood (14-27) hit for two in the fifth.
The RiverDogs were finally able to land the crushing blow in the sixth when Wes Bankston launched his fifth homerun of the season, a three-run shot to left-centerfield giving the RiverDogs a 13-7 advantage.
RiverDogs starter Brian Bulger picked up his fourth victory of the season despite allowing six runs in five innings. His ERA now stands at 7.56.
Victor Menocal (1-2) allowed three runs in one inning to suffer the loss.
Seven of the nine starters for Lakewood had multiple-hit games as the BlueClaws, who came into the game last in the league in team batting average and runs scored, set season highs in runs and hits.
Game two of the series is Saturday night at Riley Park. Carolina Dodge Dealers present Cap Giveaway Night.
Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
