TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The ninth of 18 meetings and the fifth of 10 here. Richmond is 5-2-1 vs. the Jackals, 3-0-1 at home. Jay Murphy has eight points vs. the Jackals. Don Smith has nine vs. Richmond. Jackals have out-scored Richmond 11-6 in the third period. ‘Dogs are 3-36 on the power play vs. Elmira. The ‘Dogs are second in the Eastern Conference, two points behind Flint with two games in hand. Elmira is fourth in the East, four points back of Richmond. Only six points separate the five Eastern Conference squads.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Dogs lost 4-1 at Kalamazoo last Saturday, ending a five game ‘Dogs unbeaten streak. Jeff Turner had a hat trick for the Wings. Eric Perricone scored Richmond's goal shorthanded. The Wings out-shot the ‘Dogs 39-21. The Jackals beat Muskegon 4-2 at home last night. Nathan Gillies scored twice for the Jackals. Elmira was 7-7 on the penalty kill.

'DOG BITES: The RiverDogs placed Olivier Dannel on the 14-Day IR. Richmond added goalie Ryan Aschaber to the roster. RiverDogs coach Rod Langway led the Eastern Conference All Stars to an 8-3 win over the West in the 2004 Comcast UHL All Star Classic. The ‘Dogs Kevin St. Jacques had two goals and an assist and was voted the number three star of the game. Jay Murphy added a goal for the East. J.J. Wrobel is still on IR and did not play in the All Star Game. Murphy is 19th in the league in points. Darren Wetherill is tied for fourth in plus/minus (+17). Wrobel is tied for second in game-winning goals (five). Maxime Gingras is tied for second in shutouts (three) and is tied for fourth in goaltender wins. The RiverDogs five game unbeaten streak ended Saturday at Kalamazoo. During the streak, the 'Dogs out-shot opponents by an average of 15 per game. They were out-shot by 18 Saturday and were held to three shots in the third period. Gingras notched his third shutout of the season in last Tuesday's win over Adirondack. The Richmond has lost four straight road games. The ‘Dogs last road win was December 6 at Adirondack. Richmond has scored five goals in their last four road games. The 'Dogs open a three game homestand Friday. Richmond is in a stretch of 13 out of 14 games and 18 of 21 games at home. Richmond has a 10 game road trip looming later in the season. The 'Dogs hit the halfway point of the season following Friday's game vs. Elmira. A streak of 17 straight penalty kills ended with a five on three goal against Saturday at Kalamazoo. The 'Dogs have killed 21 of the opposition's last 22 power plays. Richard Pitirri's three game scoring streak ended Saturday. The 'Dogs still lead the UHL in penalty minutes but have just 42 in their last four games. The 'Dogs equaled season lows in PIM in a game with six vs. Adirondack Tuesday and combined PIM with the opponent (14) in that game. The 'Dogs have allowed 12 regulation goals against in the last six games. Richmond is 11-1-3 when scoring first. The Jackals are 3-7 in their last 10 games. They have three of the UHL's top 18 scorers. Elmira's Kris Mallette leads the UHL in PIM.
