
RiverCity defeats Drillers in defensive battle

ST. LOUIS, MO - The River City Rage and the Beaumont Drillers found themselves in a defensive battle but it was the Rage who found the offensive touch in the fourth quarter outscoring Beaumont 20-8 to defeat the Drillers 48-26 in front of 3,487 fans at the Savvis Center.
The Rage improved to 6-1 overall in the NIFL Atlantic North while the Drillers fell to 4-3 and now sit a half-game behind Katy (5-3) in the NIFL Pacific South. Katy travels to Arkansas (2-4) on Saturday.
River City held a 14-6 halftime lead then outscored Beaumont 34-20 in the second half.
Both teams combined for a total of 290 yards as the Rage limited the Drillers to just 105 yards of offense.
Beaumont running back Roland Hayes was held to 33 yards on the ground and two scores. Quarterback Damone Scott threw for only 81 yards on 9-of-22 attempts with two touchdowns and one interception. Chad Luttrull led all receivers with four catches for 38 yards and two touchdowns.
Rage running back Sharon Edwards totaled 66 yards on the ground and three touchdowns while quarterback Justin Peery struggled, throwing for 99 yards on 9-of-18 attempts with one touchdown and four interceptions.
Beaumont's Marcus Jones, Randy Chappell and Franklin Paul each had an interception.
The Drillers will continue their road tour next Saturday, May 13, when they travel to Alabama to face the Montgomery Maulers (1-5) at 7:05 p.m.
Beaumont returns home on May 20 when they host division-rival Katy at 7:05 p.m. inside Ford Arena.
