GREENEVILLE, TN. - The Elizabethton River Riders struggled to find their footing all night against the Flyboys, as Greeneville poured on 11 unanswered runs en route to an easy 11-1 victory on Saturday night at Pioneer Park.
The River Riders had the bases loaded twice in the first three innings but failed to capitalize as the Flyboys were able to get out of both massive jams with zero runs allowed. The only blip on the radar was an Avery Owusu-Asiedu home run for the second night in a row, unfortunately with nobody on base, but it did make the score 1-0.
Collin Rothermel had a fantastic start to his night as he got the ball for the blue and yellow, allowing just one but single and striking out five through three innings. However, following a leadoff walk in the fourth, Brock Daniels hit a long home run to right field to give the Flyboys a lead they never would relinquish. Later in the inning, Myles Smith hit a solo home run to make the score 3-1.
In the sixth, the doors would fall off. The Flyboys loaded the bases with nobody out, and Ian Daughtery singled through the right side to plate a run, followed by an RBI single to left field by Jack O'Reilly. Then a walk by Cian Sahler and an RBI single by Saborn Campbell blew it wide open at 7-1 before the River Riders even recorded an out. Back-to-back sacrifice flies brought in two more runs, and before you knew it, Greeneville led 9-1.
Greeneville tacked on two more in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 11-1, which is ultimately where the game finished. Jordan Hamberg picked up the win for Greeneville while Rothaermel took the loss.
The River Riders head back to Greeneville tomorrow to finish the series with the Flyboys at 5:30 p.m. You can listen to all the action live at https://www.appyleague.com/elizabethton/audio.
