Elizabethton River Riders News Release

Elizabethton, Tenn. - On a hot night, the Elizabethton River Rider bats proved hotter as they picked up a 9-7 win over Princeton on Friday.

Things got going early, after a Princeton run in the first, Avery Owusu-Asiedu hit an opposite-field home run to tie the score at one. In the second, Elizabethton added a pair to take the lead on RBI singles from Connor Price and Peyton Basler to lead 3-1.

In the third, the Whistlepigs did get a run back on an error, but the blue and yellow struck back in a big way. Issac Williams hit a long single to drive in a run, then a few batters later Austin Roccaforte hit a sacrifice fly before the runs were capped on a two-run single from Owusu-Asiedu, who came just a triple away from the cycle on the night.

Trevor Callahan got the start for the River Riders and was fairly good as he fanned five in three innings while allowing just two runs before giving way to Jess Miller who fired two scoreless innings and he would ultimately pick up the win.

In the bottom of the seventh, the River Riders added two more on a two-run single by Austin Roccaforte to make it 9-2.

In the eighth though, things got tricky. Following a fielder's choice where everyone was safe with the bases loaded, Jesse Robinson Jr unloaded on a grand slam to cut the lead down to two.

In the ninth, Princeton managed to get a couple of runners on but a groundout to Brody Green at third base ended the ballgame.

With the win, Elizabethton moved to 10-11, while Princeton dropped to 9-12. The River Riders are back on the road as they head to Greeneville to take on the Flyboys at 7 p.m. on Saturday You can listen to the game live at https://www.appyleague.com/elizabethton/audio.
