
River Raiders Sign Corey Hightower

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Cedar Rapids River Raiders, a USBL franchise, have acquired the rights to former Indian Hills Community College star Corey Hightower. Hightower, who played for River Raiders Assistant Coach Kenyon Murray while at Indian Hills, was acquired from the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs for future considerations.
During his inaugural college season Hightower led Indian Hills to a national title and averaged 13.3 PPG. As a sophomore he averaged 22.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG and 4.4 APG as the Warriors posted a 25-8 record. Hightower declared for the NBA draft after his sophomore season and was selected in the 2nd round, with the 54th overall pick, by the San Antonio Spurs. Hightower played for the ValleyDawgs during the 2002 season and was named 2nd Team All-USBL after averaging 22.1 PPG and 5.1 RPG.
While playing for the Great Lakes Storm of the CBA during the 2002-2003 season Corey averaged 23.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG and 3.9 APG and was chosen to play in the 2003 CBA All-Star game. He had appeared in 3 games for Pennsylvania this season, averaging 18.8 PPG and 4.7 RPG while being coached by former NBA star Darryl Dawkins. Corey has spent time in several NBA camps, including the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls.
Hightower joins 8-year NBA veteran Oliver Miller as recent acquisitions of the R iver Raiders, who will begin play in April of 2004.
