Cedar Rapids, IA (July 8, 2004) The Cedar Rapids River Raiders along with KCRG TV 9 announce today the winner of the KCRG TV Sixth Man award sponsored by KCRG TV 9. The KCRG TV 9 River Raiders Sixth Man award was voted on by Coaches, and River Raiders Management.

KCRG TV 9 / River Raiders Sixth Man Award - # 32 Tim Kisner

Fifty years ago, Channel 9 started regular broadcasts between September and November of 1953. The government played a role in the timing. The Gazette Company became partners with a group of Cedar Rapids investors under the name The Cedar Rapids Television Company. But the manager for this ownership group didn't want to use the label "KCRG" that was already in use by the A.M. radio station. So both the new TV station and the radio station took the call letters KCRI. The investors quickly found that a new T.V. station in Cedar Rapids was not an immediate gold mine. Within a year, the Gazette Company bought out the other owners and reclaimed the call letters "KCRG" for both radio and T.V. Ever since then KCRG has been a staple to the community. After half a century, KCRG-TV remains the only locally-owned television station in Iowa.
