Cedar Rapids River Raiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA (July 9. 2004) - The Cedar Brewing Company taps a new light ale and names it in honor of their local pro basketball team, the Cedar Rapids River Raiders. The refreshing straw colored ale contains about 20% wheat malt which gives the beer its unique finish. American Tradition hops balance out the two-row barley and wheat malts giving the local brew a very smooth character.
"Our River Raiders ale is kind of like a lighter version of the Golden Hawk, our best selling beer," boasts the Company's Brewmaster.
"We would like to thank Cedar Brewing Company for honoring us with an ale in the River Raiders name and after a great professional basketball team" River Raiders Owner and President Barry S. Smith said. "The River Raiders will continue to work in the community with businesses and create partnerships that will last for years to come".
The Cedar Brewing Company, 500 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA was founded in February 1996 as the first establishment where beer was commercially brewed in Cedar Rapids, Iowa since the Magnus Brewing Company closed its doors due to prohibition in 1917. Under local ownership, they continue the Cedar Brewing legacy of providing outstanding microbrews, high quality food and one of Cedar Rapids most unique customer dining experiences. Brewmaster, Mike Snyder, continues to handcraft the many types of ale that are the signature of Cedar Brewing Company.
The brewpub restaurant seats approximately 150 and provides a variety of freshly grilled foods, dry-rub, slow smoked BBQ ribs, specialty pastas, appetizers, soups and salads. In addition to the four main ales on tap, five additional seasonal brews, hand-crafted root beer and cream soda are also featured. While enjoying the food, drink and socializing, customers can also test their brain power with the National Trivia Network (NTN) or enjoy watching a favorite sporting event on one of the 16 televisions. Free wireless Internet (WiFi) access is also available at every seat in the restaurant.
