River Raiders Home Opener Records Second Largest Attendance in USBL History

Cedar Rapids, IA (April 17, 2004) The Cedar Rapids River Raiders opened up their inaugural season Friday night in front of 5,913 fans at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.

This attendance mark breaks the second largest USBL attendance record of 5,176, held by Florida Sea Dragons in 2002, by 737 fans.

"We (USBL League Office) think this is a great honor for the River Raiders to start the season with great support from the community and shows all the hard work that has been put forth by the River Raiders Organization'" said USBL Director of Public Relations Dennis Truax. "The USBL would like to congratulate the Owners Barry S. Smith and Toni L. Smith, River Raiders Office Staff, Coaches and Players on this achievement".

"We are very pleased with the support we have seen from the community thus far," said Barry S. Smith President and Owner of the Cedar Rapids River Raiders. "We hope to continue having record crowds at River Raiders games for the rest of the season and seasons to come."

The next game with be a Sunday afternoon game vs. the Kansas Cagerz with doors opening at 2:00pm for a 3:00pm game start. The Alexandria Aces ball handling squad will be in attendance that afternoon for fans to enjoy along with "Bandit" the River Raiders Mascot and River Raiderettes' cheer and dance squad.
