Cedar Rapids River Raiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA (March 31st, 2003) The Cedar Rapids River Raiders, a United States Basketball League franchise, have acquired the rights to Oliver Miller from the Dodge City Legend for future considerations. Miller, a 6-feet 9-inch, 325 pound center from Arkansas, was the first round draft choice of the Phoenix Suns in 1992. He has played in 8 NBA seasons and helped lead the Suns to the NBA Finals as a rookie. Miller was the last player cut by the Indiana Pacers of the NBA prior to the 2002-2003 season.
Pacers Head Coach Isiah Thomas was pleased with Miller's play during training camp. "He's not only a big man, but an exceptional player," Thomas said. "You can be a big man and still be a good athlete."
Most recently, Miller was named to the 2002-2003 All-CBA 2nd team this season after starring for the Gary Steelheads and Dakota Wizards. While leading the Wizards to the National Conference regular season championship Miller led the CBA in blocked shots (2.5 bpg), ranked 2nd in rebounding (12.1 rpg) and was 19th in scoring (15.7 ppg).
