Cedar Rapids River Raiders News Release
Former Iowa Hawkeye Kenyon Murray has been signed by the Cedar Rapids River Raiders to fill the role of assistant coach. The River Raiders, a United States Basketball League franchise, are slated to begin play in April of 2004.
Murray completed his career at Iowa with 1,320 career points, which was 13th all-time and ranked first in career steals with 200. After college Kenyon played professionally for 2 years in the Continental Basketball Association, International Basketball Association and the Swedish League. Murray, deciding he still had a lot to offer the game of basketball, was Associate Head Coach at Indian Hills Community College from July, 1999 to July, 2002. During his time there he mentored such players as Corey Hightower and Ernest Brown, who were both selected in the 2000 NBA draft, as well as recent Iowa standout Chauncey Leslie.
Grant Guyer, the River Raiders' GM, says "Kenyon brings immediate legitimacy to our organization as well as helps generate a new level of excitement within the community."
