River Drivers Silence Titans in Shootout Win

Danbury, CT - The River Drivers took to the ice for the first of three games in as many nights as the underdog going up against a strong Danbury Titans team, defeating them 7-6 in a shootout on Thursday night.

The River Drivers jumped out to a quick lead with a goal by Steven Gallo just 33 seconds in. However the Titans stormed back with two goals as Kory Helowka and Brett Liscomb scored to give Danbury a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

The River Drivers started the second with another quick goal again by Steven Gallo to tie things up. Danbury would take the lead again as Phil Bronner got the tally. Berlin would answer with two quick goals by Pavel Kubena and Tyler Prendergast to regain the lead before Danbury tied it up at four going into the second intermission.

It seemed the River Drivers had put a dagger in the heart of the Titans as they scored two goals by Brantley Sherwood and Scott Norman in the third. However, the Titans had some late magic up their sleeve when Helowka got the Titans within one. From there, Tyler Gjurich scored with 38 seconds left in the third to knot it up and force overtime.

Overtime featured many chances for the River Drivers to finish off the game but they could not cash in. The River Drivers scored two in the shootout by Nicholas Wright and Steven Gallo to put the Titans to bed and take two points.

The River Drivers return home tomorrow night in a rematch against the Danbury Titans starting at 7:30pm (EST).
